Description

This cover illustration was created for CLEAR’s 2025 Impact Report.

CLEAR (Canadians for Leading Edge Alzheimer Research) is a non-profit organization that funds cutting-edge biomedical research for Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias. I created this illustration, which combines the grid design in CLEAR’s logo with graphics representing current areas of dementia-related research, to highlight to donors how their support is funding breakthroughs in the field.

Design Process

1 | Rough Sketches

First, I made several black-and-white sketches centered around the ideas of dementia research, community, and collaboration. I wanted to highlight how CLEAR—and their network of researchers, patients, and donors—contributed to breakthroughs in Alzheimer's disease and dementia-related research. After discussion with the client, we decided to proceed with the second idea and expand it into a full two-page spread.

2 | Graphic Development

I wanted each graphic in the grid design to either represent dementia-related research in general, or to represent a specific project that CLEAR is funding. For inspiration, I looked at CLEAR-funded projects, conducted further research into them, and illustrated graphics based on some of the projects. I chose the colour palette based on the CLEAR’s brand colours: the illustrations were done in hues of blue, and the orange was used as an accent colour to make certain elements of each graphic stand out.
